John A. Long, Jr. Obituary

So sorry to post sad news.  I just learned that one of our  1964 Sergeant-at-Arms, John Long passed away.

John A. LONG Jr.(1946 - 2018)

LONG, Jr., John A. 72, of Bellbrook, formerly of Grove City, OH, passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2018. John was born to the late John Sr. and Ruth (Heisey) Long in Harrisburg, PA, on October 27, 1946. He graduated from Grove City H.S. in 1964, received his B.A from Miami University in 1968, Masters from Central Michigan in 1976, 2nd Masters at the Air Force Institute of Technology in 1978 and received his PhD from The Ohio State University in 1983. While pursuing these degrees, John was also an active member of the US Air Force. He dedicated 23 years to our country and this included 4 tours during the Vietnam War, where he was a Navigator, on the B-52. After John retired from the Air Force, as a Colonel in 1990, he began working for Price Systems, as an analyst, and remained there until his retirement. John was a long standing member at Epiphany Lutheran Church where he served on many committees. He also dedicated his time to volunteer at SICSA, walking the dogs, every Thursday, rain or shine. When he wasn't involved in his volunteer work and other activities, John could always be found at any of his granddaughter's sporting events, with treat bags and mints, for all around him. Everyone loved Grandpa John. John is preceded in death by his parents and beloved dog and companion Garrett. He is survived by his children Amy (Bill) Zorn and Abigail (Chris) George; grandchildren Caroline Kraszewski, Kelsey and Kendal George; sister, Janis (Larry) Kahle; niece, Pamela (Paul) Bender and nephew Craig (Dani) Kahle. A visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Monday, November 26, 2018, at Routsong Funeral Home, 81 N. Main St., Centerville. A funeral service will be held the following day at 11am at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 6430 Far Hills Ave. Centerville, OH 45459. Family will also greet friends following the service at the church. In memory of John, contributions may be sent to Epiphany Lutheran or SICSA, 2600 Wilmington Pike, Dayton, OH 45419. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.routsong.com.

As many of you know, our classmates meet on a monthly basis for lunch.  It’s a great time to keep in touch, plan social activities and yes, even reminisce and tell stories on each other.  Below is the schedule for the 2018 luncheons.  Please put these dates on your calendar and plan to attend one or all of the luncheons when you are in the Grove City area.  I know the “regulars” would love to see you.

Barbara Blakeman, 71, of Grove City, passed away on January 18, 2018. She was born on December 23, 1946 to Robert and Georganna (Glaze) Blakeman. Barbara was a proud member of Grove City High School class of 1964. She attended Bliss College for two years in Columbus, Ohio. Barbara retired from Federal Civil Service with 36 years of service. Barbara will be deeply missed by her mother and many family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her father. Barbara thanks those for the many prayers.
